Head explains the meaning and cultural context of Zhang Zhongjing’s Shang Han Lun Preface.
In this previously untranslated and often overlooked first chapter of the Shang Han Lun, Zhang Zhongjing clearly details what we must do in order to be ethical, honest and effective practitioners of Chinese Medicine. He speaks about famous doctors in history and criticizes the current practitioners of his time who seek fame and wealth, focusing their efforts on decorating their practices instead of dedicating themselves to the deep study of medicine.
