It is that time again here in Beijing–Chinese New Years! Chinese New Years is our favorite holiday here, as it centers around family, food, friends and fireworks of every kind imaginable.
Starting on New Years Eve this Sunday night, everyone of every age will be lighting off fireworks everywhere in the city. It is an incredible sight and sound when several million people all descend from their homes at midnight and light off everything from sparklers to full on professional displays. Then, it is back to the house to eat Jiao Zi, or dumplings, as their shape symbolizes the new crescent moon that will start the new year on Monday.
The Holiday does not stop there, though–it continues for 5 full days of meals and visits to temple fairs, and then has a momentary pause until the final big celebration of fireworks on the First Full Moon of the New Year!
