Full Strength Chinese Medicine: Treating the Gut

Full Strength Chinese Medicine: Treating the Gut is exactly what it means: using classical theory to understand the conditions, implementing traditional medicine strategies to guide the treatments, and using acupuncture, herbs, bodywork and every other tool of Chinese medicine to be successful in the clinic. Andrew covers an array of gut issues drawn from his patient base, lays out how he thinks about the conditions, what has to be done to get these patients better, and why he chooses the treatment methods and herbs he uses.

This is a complete hybrid course, with livestream lectures and demonstrations, seminar videos available after the broadcasts, additional content of case histories uploaded in between sessions, and bonus material to be posted after the last broadcast in September. This is Andrew Nugent-Head’s effort to create a complete teaching program on treating the gut,

Official Seminar Information:

Treating the digestive system has never been more important or complicated than today. Unlike the past, modern patients are beset from all sides: processed foods aggravating the gall bladder; chemical additives irritating the intestinal lining; stressful lifestyles inhibiting the parasympathetic ‘Rest Digest’ system; resurgence of parasites from the raw consumption of organic vegetables and/or travel to developing countries; environmental/industrial influences setting off auto-immune responses; destruction of digestive flora due to western drugs… the list goes on.

While Classical Chinese medicine traditionally has much to offer, this onslaught of influences affecting the most important system in our body requires thinking far beyond simple treatment methods of Four Gentlemen Decoction (四君子湯 Si Jun Zi Tang) variations, Regulate the Qi Decoctions (承氣湯 Cheng Qi Tang) variations, or choosing acupuncture points such as  陰陵泉穴Yinlingquan SP09 and 足三里穴Zusanli ST36. We have to understand the modern factors our patients face, the mechanism of the emotions on Qi, how Qi moves in the body in a strong or weak pulse patient, and what happens if their True Yang is either too hot or too cold. In addition, we also have to contend with our patients damaging themselves due to what they read online, diet fads and supplement regimes.

Based on the patients we see every day in our clinic, this seminar explains the classical view of the mechanisms behind modern gut pathologies, outlines the treatment strategies we rely on and highlights our successes and failures. It is designed to take participants far beyond anything learned in school, giving them a clear understanding and clinically proven treatment protocols to treat conditions such as:

  • Gall Bladder inflammation
  • IBS
  • Parasites
  • Crohn’s & Ulcerative Colitis
  • Leaky Gut
  • Insufficient Beneficial Flora/microbiome dysfunction
  • Emergency Conditions: Appendicitis, dysentery, food poisoning, hemorrhoids

Participants will have the mechanisms behind these conditions clearly explained, understand treatment variations based on the patients’ True Yang and Upright Qi, learn the strategies of the formulas we prescribe and herbs we use, see the acupuncture and bodywork protocols we use demonstrated  and then practice these techniques as a group. This is an intensive training seminar focused on learning and practical training, with minimal breaks and high expectations of its students. Participants do not need to practice or use herbs to attend. However, all in person participants must be practicing acupuncturists and arrive prepared to both needle and be needled during practicum sessions.

SEMINAR COST CHF 1000 or USD 1000, depending on site registration
