Burned Out From Caregiving

Been taking care of my grandmother full time and I love her, but wow, the exhaustion is real. Yesterday I traced leaves from the yard into a notebook while she napped and felt my shoulders finally drop. Maybe creativity is what I’ve been missing. Can you recommend art therapy activities for adults that are calming but still engaging?

Caregiving can drain you in quiet ways, so that leaf tracing moment sounds like your brain finally got a breather. When my neighbor was looking after her dad, she kept a small box of markers and did slow color layering every afternoon. Nothing fancy, just filling shapes, but she said it steadied her mood. You might enjoy nature rubbing, simple mandalas, or cutting paper into repeating patterns. I ran across some gentle ideas here expressive arts therapy techniques  that feel absorbing without being tiring, which is perfect when your energy is already spoken for.
